Some bands are a phase. OnPoint is a marriage — minus the divorce statistics, and with significantly better outfits.
We’re celebrating 11 years together as a band, and if you do the math on over 2,650 events and shows, that works out to an average of roughly 240 performances a year. That’s a lot of first dances, a lot of encores, and an almost irresponsible amount of confetti. Somewhere along the way, Hong Kong decided we were worth keeping around, and we’ve been honoured to hold the title of Hong Kong’s favourite party band ever since.
But like any band worth its salt, we never stand still. Here’s what’s been happening in the OnPoint camp.
A Fond Farewell to Foxglove
For the past 10 years, Friday nights at Foxglove meant one thing: OnPoint, a packed dance floor, and a crowd singing louder than our monitors. It was a rare public window into our world — since most of our calendar is private events, Foxglove was where anyone could just walk in, grab dinner and a couple of drinks, and dance the night away with us.
On December 20th 2025, Foxglove closed its doors for the last time, and honestly? We felt it. Ten years of Fridays is a lot of history. We’d like to thank everyone who ever danced, requested, or danced and requested (you know who you are, and yes, we remember the one who asked for “In The Air Tonight” four Fridays in a row).
The good news: we’re actively searching for our next home. And when we find it, we will have a big announcement. That’s all we’ll say for now — you’ll want to check back here for the reveal of our next live venue for public performances. 🤐
Say Hello to the New Blood
Great bands are made, not born — and our Music Director Billy Alexander has been putting our three newest members through rigorous training to keep OnPoint’s chemistry exactly where you expect it: On Point. (We’re never retiring that pun. Sorry.)
Mike Hui — Drums. A 2020–2023 graduate of Musicians Institute Tokyo, Mike was shaped by hip hop, soul, R&B, funk, and jazz — and brought that groove back home to Hong Kong, where he performs with OnPoint across events big and small (and writes original music with local bands on the side). He’s also our youngest member, which means the rest of us have officially become “the experienced ones.” We’re choosing to take that as a compliment.
Vincent Chan — Bass. Trained at the Los Angeles Music Academy, Vinc has performed everywhere from the Freespace Jazz Fest and Fringe Jazz Festival to the Hong Kong productions of Les Misérables and Next to Normal — and serves as music director for several universities. Basically, he read the entire book on bass. Then wrote a few extra chapters.
Bernard Abellanosa — Guitar. A true master of sound with a natural feel for the instrument, Bernard has shared stages with Cantopop stars including William Hu, Jonathan Wong, Mitoy Yonting, and Crisel Consunji. When he’s not melting faces on guitar, he’s producing, engineering, and teaching music — the man doesn’t sleep, he just switches instruments.
What Hasn’t Changed
Eleven years on, the recipe stays the same: weddings, corporate functions and events, birthday parties, and anywhere people need a dance floor to stop being empty. We cover everything from soul, R&B, and Top 40 to rock, the 60s through the modern hits, Chinese songs, pop, reggae, and every flavour of jazz — because a great party doesn’t have one genre, it has all of them.
And with new members comes fresh energy, new arrangements, and a few surprises we’re saving for the stage.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled
Between the Foxglove successor announcement and everything else we’ve got cooking, the next few months are going to be big for OnPoint. Follow us here and on social media so you don’t miss the big reveal — we promise it’ll be worth the wait.
2,650 shows down. Eternity to go.
